Rebtel vs LapLine: app plans or browser calls with your own number

Rebtel is a mobile app for international calling with per-country plans and credit, and it can route some calls through local phone lines. LapLine is a browser phone for people who call from a computer: it shows a number you own, quotes the exact price of each number before you dial, and charges one prepaid balance per started minute. Both are legitimate choices; which one is cheaper depends on how often you call one country.

Questions and answers

Is LapLine cheaper than Rebtel?
It depends on the destination and on how often you call. A Rebtel unlimited plan can cost less if you talk to one country for hours each month. LapLine has no plan: you pay the destination rate plus a small fixed per-minute service price, per started minute, and the dialer shows the exact price before each call. Compare that quote with the Rebtel plan for your country.
Can I keep my number when I move from Rebtel to LapLine?
There is nothing to port. LapLine verifies the number you already own with one call and shows it as your caller ID. Your Rebtel account is not affected.
Does LapLine have an app like Rebtel?
LapLine runs in the browser and can be installed as a web app from the browser menu. There is no app store download.
Can I call with LapLine without internet?
No. LapLine calls run over Wi-Fi or mobile data. If you often call from places with poor data, a service with local access numbers may suit you better.
